Sports

Talibé children love sports, especially soccer, a true passion that allows them to escape, surpass themselves, and create strong bonds with their friends. Impromptu matches become moments of pure joy in Maison de la Gare's courtyard, breaks away from the harshness of the children's daily lives. These moments are much more than simple games: they embody a breath of freedom and rediscovered childhood.
Maison de la Gare organizes a major football tournament every year to reinforce this dynamic, one of the most anticipated events of the year for the children. This tournament brings together 16 teams of around twenty players each, from daaras all around the city. The matches take place over a period of three months, creating a true sporting atmosphere that punctuates the life of the center during this period. The final, particularly festive match attracts a large audience of children, partners, volunteers, and members of the community. Beyond competition, this tournament conveys essential values: team spirit, respect for the opponent, perseverance, and fair play.
At the same time, Maison de la Gare offers karate training, providing an alternative form of bodily expression, structured around discipline and respect for oneself and others. These sessions take place at the center several mornings each week, supervised by an experienced instructor. Around thirty more advanced karatekas regularly attend evening classes at a local dojo, and many of them have earned yellow, orange, green, and higher belts.
The karate program involves around fifty talibés, several of whom have had the honor of representing their group in national competitions. The tournaments held at our center are highlights of the year for both competitors and spectators. Karate plays a key role in children's personal development. It builds their self-confidence, helps them channel their energy, and offers them a constructive alternative to violence and the streets. Through this discipline, children acquire solid benchmarks and integrate values that help them better interact with their challenging environment.
Through these sporting activities, Maison de la Gare works for a comprehensive approach to the well-being of talibé children. Sport is used as a powerful tool for education, social reintegration, and inner healing. It allows children to rebuild their lives, dream, and, above all, believe in themselves again. Offering these young people the opportunity to play, surpass themselves, and feel valued is giving them back a part of their childhood that is often stolen, and opening the doors to a more promising future.
